Understanding Your Child
THE EVALUATION PROCESS
My approach to evaluations goes beyond just testing. I utilize a comprehensive process to gain a complete picture of your child's strengths and challenges. Evaluation includes both telehealth and in-person visits. This includes:
Standardized Assessments: I am trained in using evidence-based tools to gather valuable information such as:
Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule – Second Edition (ADOS-2)
Childhood Autism Rating Scale – Second Edition (CARS-2)
Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised (ADI-R)
Mullen Scale of Early Learning
Differential Ability Scales - Second Edition (DAS-II)
Parent and Teacher Input: Your insights as parents and your child's teachers are crucial. I'll request questionnaires to better understand your child's behavior in different settings.
Additional Observations: In some cases, I may request videos of your child at home or observe them interacting in other environments, like school (with your permission, of course). This helps create a well-rounded picture of their development.
Benefits of a Comprehensive Approach:
This multi-faceted approach ensures we don't miss any important details. It allows me to create a personalized evaluation that reflects your child's unique needs.
Step-by-Step Guide to Your Child's Evaluation
-
Consent and Intake
Before our initial video intake session, you'll need to complete consent paperwork. Please note: If parents are separated or divorced, consent from both parents is typically required unless a court order states otherwise. We can discuss any questions you have before or during our intake session.
During the intake, we'll discuss your concerns about your child's development and I'll send you questionnaires to gather additional information.
-
Comprehensive Assessment
After intake, I will do a video or in-person testing session, typically consisting of a developmental/cognitive assessment and an autism-specific test.
I may also request additional information, such as videos of your child, or with your permission, talking to teachers/therapists or observe them interacting in other settings like school.
-
Putting the Pieces Together
Combining the results from questionnaires, assessments, and any additional observations, I'll develop a comprehensive understanding of your child's strengths and needs.
-
Sharing Insights and Recommendations
In a video feedback session, I'll discuss the evaluation results, diagnosis (if applicable), and targeted recommendations tailored to your child's specific needs.
You'll receive a detailed report summarizing my findings, which you can share with your child's pediatrician, teachers, therapists, or any other professionals involved in their care.
